Construction Calculators for the Field & Office

Fast construction quantity calculations for estimating and field checks: concrete, excavation, grading, pipe, paving, and production. Published formulas, worked examples, and units that match the job. These are estimating aids, not a substitute for approved drawings.

What PlanQty helps calculate

The tools cover everyday quantity work: station and elevation difference, percent grade and pipe slope, trench cut, bedding, backfill, spoils and truckloads, pipe interior volume, paving area, asphalt and base-rock tons, riprap, concrete cubic yards, production rate, crew man-hours, and feet/inches conversions. Open a calculator when you already have the field or takeoff measurements; each page states which inputs it uses and which related quantity it does not compute. Assumptions and limitations sit next to the formula so a reviewer can see what the arithmetic leaves out.

How to use the results

Treat every output as an estimating aid. Check it against the approved plans, specifications, survey control, mix ticket, or quarry density before you order, bid, or cut. The formula on the page is the arithmetic that ran; it does not apply a design standard, a manufacturer table, or a soil name unless you typed that factor in yourself.

Why inputs and assumptions matter

Width is excavated width, not pipe OD. Pipe volume uses inside diameter. Tonnage uses compacted thickness and the density of that material, not a generic “rock” number. Station plus values are 0–99.99 ft. A waste or swell percent changes the order of magnitude of the haul. If those assumptions do not match the job, change the inputs rather than trusting the default.
