What these pipe calculators are for
Utility takeoffs split into slope on the run, interior volume of the pipe, and the soil prism around it. Slope is rise over run. Volume is a circular prism from inside diameter. Bedding is the stone or sand layer under (or around) the pipe, not the full trench cut.
Which tool to open
Pipe slope is for laterals and trench grade when you need percent, inches per foot, and fall per 100 feet. Pipe volume is interior gallons and gallons per foot for fill, disinfection, or test water — use inside diameter, not OD. Bedding is the rectangular bedding prism. Trench excavation and backfill live under excavation because they are the cut and the refill, not the pipe itself.
Common unit mistakes
Drop is often inches while run is feet. Volume uses ID; trench width uses excavated width, not nominal pipe size. Flowable fill and percent-full flow are not in these tools: the volume calculator assumes a full circular section.
