What PlanQty is

PlanQty is a collection of practical construction calculators. Each tool is meant to help with a common field or office quantity calculation: converting a measured length, finding a grade, estimating a trench cut, or turning plan area into material volume.

The site is a calculation resource, not a construction company, design office, or licensed engineering firm. Pages publish the formula, units, and examples for that calculation so you can check the arithmetic against the job in front of you.

Who these calculators are for

They are written for people who already do this math on jobs: contractors, estimators, project engineers, superintendents, and field personnel who need a quantity, a grade, or a unit conversion during takeoff or layout. You do not need an account. You enter the numbers from the plans, the tape, or the grade rod.

The library is 20 published calculators covering grading and stationing, excavation and haul, pipe slope and interior volume, paving area and tonnage, concrete volume, production rates, and feet/inches conversions. Individual tools are listed by category and on the tools index. Each tool page states the formula that ran, the units it used, a worked example, the assumptions it makes, and what it does not calculate.

Who publishes PlanQty

PlanQty is a public construction-calculator website operated by Frankie Pomilia. It is not a licensed engineering firm, not a contractor, and not a materials supplier. There is no user account. Contact for formula or unit issues is on the Contact page.

How the calculations work

Each calculator uses a standard mathematical relationship and the inputs shown on that page. Lengths are converted to a common unit before the formula runs. Results are deterministic: the same inputs produce the same outputs. There is no model that guesses soil type, mix design, or a code-minimum slope for you.

Defaults such as 145 lb/ft³ for compacted hot-mix or 125 lb/ft³ for crushed base are estimating starting points, labeled as such. Change them when the mix sheet, quarry ticket, or specification gives a different value.

Accuracy and project-specific conditions

A calculator result is only as good as the measurements and assumptions you enter. Check the output against the approved plans, specifications, survey control, supplier data, and any standard the project actually uses. Waste, swell, shrink, density, and production factors vary by material, weather, and access.

PlanQty is an estimating and calculation aid. It does not replace project-specific engineering, design, specifications, manufacturer requirements, inspection, or professional judgment. It does not stamp drawings or certify quantities.

Maintaining the calculator library

Tools and supporting explanations are reviewed and improved when a usability issue, a unit mistake, a missing worked example, or a real search/use pattern shows that a page is unclear. Changes go through the same formula tests as the original calculation. If a formula looks wrong or a unit default does not match field practice, use the Contact page.

These calculators are estimating tools for planning and field checks. They are not a substitute for approved plans, specifications, licensed professional engineering, or governing standards. Confirm densities, waste factors, and yields with your supplier and project documents.
