What these conversion calculators are for
Layout and grade-rod work switches between decimal feet (total feet including the fraction) and a tape reading in whole feet plus remaining inches. Both PlanQty converters use inches ÷ 12. They start from opposite sides of that identity so you do not have to reverse the arithmetic by hand.
Which tool to open
Decimal feet converter: you have feet and inches (or inches only) and need decimal feet or tenths of a foot. Feet/inches converter: you have a decimal-foot, meter, or inch length and need whole feet plus remaining inches. Tenths of a foot are 0.1 ft = 1.2 in, not 1 in.
