Paving Area Calculator
Calculate paved or treated area from length and width. Use it before the asphalt or base-rock tonnage tools when the plan gives linear dimensions instead of an area.
Enter your values, then press Calculate.
How to calculate
Enter length and width of the paved rectangle. For several lanes or panels, run them separately and add. Add waste for matching, overlaps, and odd-shaped edges.
Formula
Area (ft²) = length (ft) × width (ft). Square yards = ft² ÷ 9. Waste multiplies the neat area for overlaps and irregular edges.
Common use cases
- Parking lot panels
- Driveway takeoffs
- Overlay areas before tonnage
- Comparing 12 ft vs 14 ft lane widths
Worked example
Example: 100 × 20 ft
1. Neat square feet
100 × 20 = 2,000 ft²
2. Square yards
2,000 ÷ 9 = 222.2222 yd²

FAQ
Does this include thickness?
No. This is plan area only. Send the square yards into the asphalt or base-rock tonnage calculators with a thickness.
Is waste the same as thickness waste?
No. Area waste covers overlaps, odd shapes, and measurement rounding. Material waste on the tonnage tools covers yield and compaction.
